Wish I’m in Monterosso al Mare…Again!
With this this cold weather in our area, I wish I am in Monterosso al Mare right now. It seems that winter is coming back! I am not wishing for it and still hoping for a better weather the next days. ..a warm sunny weather!
I was browsing some albums from my previous travels in 2011 and found some pictures taken during our trip in Italy. One of the towns we visited was Monterosso al Mare. It is one of the villages in Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It was April 2011 when I and some friends had a trip in this part of Italy. The weather was perfect that time. It was sunny and you can even a shirt and short when going around.
The beach at Monterosso runs along most of the coast line and is well used by tourists and locals. The beach is the only extensive sand beach in the Cinque Terre. Monterosso is a small town that in the summer months is overrun by tourists. Taken during our visit last April 2011. © www.rubybenz.com
Our tour guide toured us around the old town and new town of Monterosso. That was quite a walk because the train station is quite far from the old town. But with the beautiful scenery you see around, the beach, blue water and perfect weather, you will not really feel tired about it.
The village was briefly excluded from the Cinque Terre trail in 1948, but was re-introduced in mid-1949. This is because Italian officials considered the village too large to be considered part of the historic trail.

I was saddened by a news because that same year in October 25, 2011, Monterosso was devastated by heavy flooding and mudslides. I was watching a news that time in television and this village was featured when it was hit by flood. I believed the people already recovered from all the damages during that natural catastrophe.
