How to Renew A Domain Bought in Blogger or Thru Google Apps or Google Wallet
It can be tragic for us bloggers losing our domain(s) because we cannot renew or access our billing information especially if our domain is purchased thru Google Wallet or Google Apps. This is true especially when you work hard for that domain and we have been writing and updating it with many articles for some years now and all of a sudden, we will just lose it because we have a problem in renewing it.
I heard a lot of bloggers who have problems in renewing their blogs. In anyway, they also have problems in accessing their admin Console or their billing information in Google Apps or Google Wallet. I am sharing my experiences to give you some ideas on how to renew your blogs bought in Blogger or thru Google Apps or Google Wallet. Here are some tips and information I can share to you.
Be sure to keep an eye or make a list of your blogs expiry dates
I know that some bloggers maintain a lot of blogs. Some maybe have 5- to 10 blogs or more. That is quite amazing and a lot of work for you as a blogger but I admire you for doing it. Sometimes, it is quite difficult to remember the expiry dates of these blogs. In your working room or in front of your computer or laptop, I suggest that you put a list on your blogs expiry, to be able to monitor your blogs renewal dates. Be sure to renew it as early as you can. I suggest a month before especially if it is not set to auto-renew.
What to do if you haven’t created yet an Admin ID or log-in account for your domain?
If you bought a domain via Blogger and have never configured a Super Administrator username. By default, a domain bought via Blogger, will have its Super Administrator set as bloggeradmin@yourdomain.com where ‘yourdomain.com’ is replaced by your actual domain.
For example, since you bought yourdomain.com via Blogger and never setup a Super Administrator account, your default username would be bloggeradmin@ yourdomain.com
You can actually sign-in with this like you are signing-in in your regular Google mail. Just input bloggeradmin@ yourdomain.com and click “Can’t access your account”. They will send you a link to your Gmail which you used when you bought that domain. Click that link and from there, follow the instruction to create you Super Administrator password.
If you already created an Admin account for your domain in Google Apps, you can actually use this URL below for signing-in. This is the URL where you can have an access to your Cpanel;
https://www.google.com/a/cpanel/YOURDOMAIN.com (copy and paste this to your browser)
Here is also another case that happened to one of the domains I bought in Google Apps. I can sign-in in my Cpanel or Admin Console but I cannot access the Subscription and Billing information where I can input my credit card for auto-renewal of my domain. I guess, this is due to the new updates made by Google in their system. For some reasons, I can no longer access my Subscription and Billing account.
I actually emailed Google Enterprise for it and this is my email below last September 20,2013.
My Question: ” I have a problem accessing the subscription and billing of this domain, for example XYZ.com
I can access the Cpanel but when I want to check if the billing is set to auto-renew, I cannot access the billing account of this domain.”
Google Esupport Response:
“I understand that you’re not able to access the Billing tab for the domain yourdomain.com and you want to make sure that the domain gets renewed.
It is expected for you not to have a billing tab as this account is not a Business edition; however you’ll see the domain renewal options under ‘Domains’.
To do so please log into your account, select ‘More Controls’, find ‘Domains’ and there you’ll see the option to auto renew. As you mentioned so far this is not selected.
As the account was opened on November last year, the domain purchase was linked to Google Wallet and not the main Admin console. After selecting the renewal option you may be asked to enter your Billing information so we can link it to our Admin console, if you’re not asked that will mean the renewal will continue through Google Wallet.
The other question is, where can you access Google Wallet?
You can access it thru this URL, click this link or copy and paste it to your browser, https://wallet.google.com
From this URL, you can sign in to your Google Account or Gmail account which you use when buying that domain. In your Google wallet, be sure to input your billing information like the means of payment you will use in auto-renewing your account. Credits cards are the best way to do it.
One more thing in your Admin Console or Cpanel, be sure to check the option , “Automatically renew my domain registration every year”
You can actually do it in this URL below,
https://admin.google.com/YOURDOMAIN.com/CPanelHome#DomainSettings/subtab=domains
I hope I was able to give you a bit ideas on how to renew your domain bought thru Google Apps or Google Wallet.
I also would love to thank the help I had from Google Enterprise. Thank you so much for keeping my domain.
