Memorable Tuscany Trip is Over!
My holiday in Tuscany is finally over. I am backed home for some days now and so thankful that I was given the opportunity to travel again to beautiful places in Tuscany. It is indeed one of the most beautiful region in Italy. I have been in Italy many times and visited many places like Milan, Rome, Venice, Verona, some places in Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore, San Remo, Cinque Terre and some other more but I can conclude, Tuscany is one of the loveliest region in Italy.
The Vecchio Bridge or the Ponte Vecchio, “Old Bridge”, is a Medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy,
It was a 7-day trip and we visited some places like Florence, Lucca, Porto Venere, Carrara, Pisa and Siena. It was quite a long journey from our departure area in Bavaria, Germany to our hotel in Marina di Pietrasanta. Including the stop-overs and breaks we did along the way, it took us around 13 hours to reach our final destination. It was a long trip but it was all worth it visiting all these interesting places in Tuscany.
The next day, our first destination was Carrara. Our tour guide brought us to the mountains where the Carraran marble is quarried. It is famous for its white or blue-grey marble. I can’t imagine going to this place where the famous Michelangelo,an Italian sculptor, painter and architect and other other famous Italian sculptors and artists got the materials to produce fine magnificent monuments and statues in many places in Italy.
After the tour guide explained to us how marble is quarried, we proceeded to Porto Venere. This town in on the Ligurian coast of Italy in the province of La Spezia is also worth-to-visit. I was only saddened because I really don’t have enough time to explore everything. At least, I experienced most of its sights.
I believed the highlight of our Tuscany trip was when we visited Florence on the third day. This city is a must-see for those who love history. It is known as the cradle of of the Renaissance, and has been called the Athens of the Middle Ages. I wish, I stay in Florence for a week!
San Michelle Church in Lucca, Tuscany, Italy.
The fourth, we had a sightseeing in Lucca. The weather was not really friendly because it was raining so hard when we were there. I went back to the hotel with wet shoes and pants. This walled-city is also interesting to explore.
Pisa was another wonderful city to visit in Italy. It was our fifth day of sightseeing. I was quite disappointed that day because our bus driver did not immediately found the “checkpoint” in Pisa. This is the area where the buses should park and must pay a big amount for parking. We lost almost an hour by turning around and around. After asking a gas station, we did finally find the checkpoint. It was a lovely weather in Pisa. I wish we can stay longer but sad to say, we cannot!
The Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy. Glad to be there!
Our last day of sightseeing was in Siena. The weather was perfect that time and we did experience a lot in this city. Among the sights we saw were the Siena Cathedral, the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo which houses the Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre del Mangia, Piazza Salimbeni and more.
On the 7th day, we have to say Arrivederci Toskana or Ciao Italia! The bus left our hotel in Marina di Pietrasanta at 7:10 AM. It was a long way back home but I am glad that I once again beautiful places in Italy.
P.S. This post should be done yesterday but due to computer problems wherein my laptop always hanged, I was not able to finish it. I apologize to my dear readers and viewers!
