Done with my Balikbayan Box
How are you doing folks? I hope everything is fine at the moment. I am glad that I accomplished little things at home. After almost a week of doing my Balikbayan box, I am finally done with it. I hope the cargo forwarder will pick-it up tomorrow. I am also hoping that it will reach Philippines on time. I already experienced some problems with some of the forwarding companies who are shipping containers to my home country.
What are really balikbayan boxes? These are usually large boxes we are sending to our family, relatives and friends in the Philippines. These boxes that are not sent thru regular postal mail but usually thru a forwarder or company who ships it to the Philippines. Balikbayan boxes contains anything we wish to put inside from clothing to electronics, household items, any foods like chocolates, canned goods, candies, etc., kitchen utensils, tools, vitamins, beauty products, bar and liquid soaps, shampoos, medicines, and anything that are helpful to our families. The contents of the balikbayan box are tax-free since they are considered as donations.
There is usually no weight limit for a balikbayan box. You can also choose the size of your box and prices differ according to the size. I usually send the biggest box which contains 173 liters with a size of 72cm x 43cm x 56cm. When you send a lot of boxes, you will usually get some price discounts here in Germany but sometimes, it also depend on the company.
Due to the Filipino value of having a close-family ties, we are always thinking of our family back home and we always help whenever we can. For Filipino people, family is always on top.
I am just sad because the forwarder or the company who always ships my balikbayan boxes rest in peace now. I just read today in their website that Stephan Herold already passed away. I am his customer since 2004 and I am quite sad about his passing. Condolence to your family and relatives Stephan and may you rest in peace. Thanks for the help in bringing my previous balikbayan boxes to my family in the Philippines. Thank you for helping the Filipino people. You will always be remembered.
