Dogging It In Niagara Falls
Today’s pet-friendly destinations make it easier than ever to bring Fido and Fluffy on vacation with you. Read on for information about bringing your dog to Niagara Falls.
Dog-Friendly Hotels
These are just a few of the pet-friendly hotels in the Niagara area. You can click to visit website for bookings and more information.
• The Diplomat Inn. This hotel provides friendly service and is only minutes from the Falls and other attractions.
• Howard Johnson Hotel by the Falls. Great packages are available and the hotel is just a short walk from Clifton Hill.
• Old Stone Inn. An historical, boutique hotel, the Old Stone Inn offers charm and elegance in the heart of Niagara Falls.
Crossing the Border
Your dog can cross the border with you from the U.S. into Canada. However, if your dog is older than three months, you must provide proof of rabies vaccination within the last three years. Dogs younger than three months old do not need proof of vaccination. All dogs must be in good health in order to be allowed into the country.
Dog-Friendly Areas
While dogs are not permitted on rides or attractions – no matter the dog’s size – they are welcome on parklands on the Niagara Parks property, excluding public swimming areas. (Service dogs are exempt from these restrictions.) However, dogs must be kept under owner control and on a leash at all times. Pet owners are also expected to “stoop and scoop” cleaning up after their dogs.
Keeping this in mind, there are plenty of places you can take your dog including Victoria Park, the Whirlpool, the Floral Clock and Botanical Gardens. You can also travel along the 35-mile Niagara River Recreational Trail. This paved path starts at Fort George and runs to Fort Erie.
For outdoor lovers and dog owners, Niagara Falls is an ideal vacation destination.
