Spring Season in Oslo, Norway
Hello everyone! I am finally done chatting with my sister. I am glad that I was able to catch here online. I am also happy to know her achievements. She told me that she is finally done defending her last thesis and will graduate in her master’s degree this coming March. It is indeed amazing and I am so happy and proud for her.
Let me go back to my fave topic about travels. This is actually a luxury cruise trip I did in Scandinavia in spring season last year. My good friend Jean was with me that time and I am glad and thankful to her that she did traveled with me or else I cannot book this luxury cruise alone. It is very simple why I cannot go alone with this luxury cruise. It is very expensive to pay for the single-cabin charge. My friend save me for that. Imagine paying over 300 euros extra if I am alone?? No way! Thanks a lot Jean and I had fun traveling with you.
The City Hall in Oslo, Norway. It houses the city council, city administration, and art studios and galleries.
One of the cities we visited was Oslo. It is the historic capital and most populous city in Norway. Our ship docked at around 11:00 in the evening. I and my friend decided to go for a night sightseeing which was indeed a good choice than staying in the ship. We walked around the city for almost two hours that night. The spring weather in Oslo was still cold. That was not a problem because we had our winter jackets on.
The Oslo Cathedral is the main church for the Oslo bishopric of the Church of Norway, as well as the parish church for downtown Oslo. The present building dates from 1694-1697.
“Oslo was founded around 1000 AD, and established a “kaupstad” or trading place in 1048 by King Harald III, the city was elevated to a bishopric in 1070 and a capital under Haakon V around 1300.”
Oopps! I was away again watching Sochi’s Olympics 2014 this afternoon and early evening. I should be finishing this article but this event will just let me pause for awhile online and watch the live games in Sochi.
Back to Oslo now! I and my friend had fun that evening. We went around the city and like any other capital cities in Europe and in other continents, Oslo never sleep as well. There were a lot of people walking around that night. After our sightseeing, we decided to go back to the ship to get enough sleep for the next day’s trip.
We woke-up earlier that time. Did our breakfast in one of Aidabella’s restaurants. As usual, you can choose which restaurant to take your breakfast. After taking it, we went back to our room and went down from the ship. We decided to take the tour bus and we went first to the Viking Ship Museum. It was still not opened when we arrived. While waiting for it to open, we decided to take pictures from outside. Finally, it was opened and it took us around an hour to visit this very interesting museum. It contains two 1100 year old Viking-ships (apparently the best preserved in the world), and also contains various other Viking artifacts and a Viking burial chamber, complete with ancient skeletons.
We also took the chance to visit by day the Oslo City Hall (we already visited it by night), Oslo Cathedral, Opera House, Royal Palace, the Stortinget (the parliament building) and other sights in the city.
A day or two is not really enough to see everything but at least, my dream of wanting to visit Norway’s capital finally did came true. Who knows one day, I can visit it again.
Visiting Oslo was so far a great achievement for me. I finally visited one of Scandinavia’s capital city! It was a great feeling and I am so happy and contented everytime I remember that travel to Norway.
