Travel to Britain … Bring Your Dog
When you go on holiday, if you have a dog, it can be difficult. Do you lump it on a relative who agreed through gritted teeth; do you drop it off at a kennel where you know it will be traumatised from being left in a strange place with strangers; or do you bring it along? Some holidays aren’t exactly made for dogs. For example theme park holidays in Florida, beach holidays in Italy, or clubbing holidays in Ibiza. However, Britain is perfect for bringing along your dog. We love dogs over here, and it’s easy to find dog friendly hotels and establishments, plus we have some of the most beautiful areas to walk in the world.
The Lake District
I have a confession … I’ve never actually been to the Lake District, which is awful as I’ve always a wanted to go. I spend all my time in the next two sections of this article. It is an area of Britain known for its lakes and rain … a lot of rain. However, it’s one of the most beautiful areas of the country, if not one of the best in all of Europe. This place is an absolute must.
Cornwall
The Florida of England … well that’s not exactly right, although it has fantastic beaches and a lot of old people. Cornwall is where the locals go on holiday when they don’t want to go abroad, and to be honest a lot of the time you can’t tell you’re in England as some of the views and the state of the water and the palm trees could mean you were in the Caribbean.
And make sure you have a cream tea and a Cornish pasty.
The Forest of Dean
The Forest of Dean was the inspiration for JK Rowling’s Forbidden Forest and parts of Tolkien’s Shire. It was also where they filmed some of the new Star Wars film and programmes like Doctor Who. Parts of the forest are so magical you will feel like you’ve been transported to the days or Merlin and King Arthur. It’s the perfect place for long dog walks, especially in Autumn where you can trundle through the leaves and see the wild boar that roam around. Kids and dogs will love it. There are long rivers, waterfalls, and ancient abandoned areas that date back centuries.
Suffolk
Britain is quite a hilly place, and so can prove difficult to walk around if you have bad joints or are a bit past your prime. If this is the case then why not try counties like Lincolnshire and Suffolk. These areas are as flat as Belgium. The sky looks so massive you’ll swear that you are on a Texas prairie. Suffolk has flat winding paths that will lead you through beautiful blue bell woods over fences and through fields that stretch far off into the distance.
Well, what are you waiting for? Come to Britain. It’s brilliant. It’s a romantic getaway for you and your partner; a family fun-filled destination, or a simple country to walk your dog in. Take your pick and come along to ol’ Blighty.
