Tips on How to Invigorate Your Garden
If you’re lucky enough to have a garden, then you need to utilize it. You’re paying for it, so you might as well make it look amazing. In the summer months (or if you’re in California, all year round) it is important to get out into your garden and spend a little quality time with nature. They are brilliant places to enjoy the plant life and see the birds and the bees frittering their time away with the rest of the wildlife.
Gardens are a great place to entertain your guests and they are an integral part of your home and so make sure they look fabulous. If your garden looks a bit tatty then your friends won’t want to spend time there. It’s time to inject a bit of life into your limp and tired yard.
It’s a Garden, Get Some Plants
So many gardens or back yards consist of a patch of browning grass and some patio furniture (even when there isn’t a patio…) and this needs to end because it makes me angry. Buy some flowers or even a couple of young trees and plant them. Watch them grow and bloom into something stunningly beautiful. A garden in full bloom is a special thing and should be treasured. Just imagine the BBQ under the hot summer sun with a spattering of clouds and the rich smell of flowers. The garden erupts with color and it’s hard for it to not rub off on your mood.
The Right Lighting
Lighting can elevate a good garden to a great garden. When the sun goes down the party has to move inside, unless you have great lighting in your garden, that is. With the right lighting you can be your very own Gatsby:
“There was music from my neighbor’s house through the summer nights. In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars.”
There are two forms of lighting that I think work really well in a garden. The first one is ‘main light’ and I would recommend LED lighting for this. LED lighting from a company like Altech Efficiency is brighter than normal lighting and is more economical to run and better for the environment. It’s a bright light that can cover the whole garden. I would also recommend ‘mood lighting’ with the help of small, well placed lights. You can get them in the form of rock lights or – my favorite – Turkish style lanterns.
A Perfect Blend of Comfort and Style
Now your garden looks the part, you have to make sure it’s comfortable for people to enjoy a summer evening in it. This comes from having the right furniture. Make sure you get comfortable patio furniture or perhaps even a love swing. A fire pit will also help people feel comfortable and relaxed in your earthly Eden. Now, I’ve helped all I can, the rest is up to you. Feel free to personalize your garden and make it is special to you and your family and then look forward to hours of enjoyment throughout year (sorry Alaska).
